Tuesday: Upper, South Nyack Preps for Village Elections

It's election day. Go out and vote at Upper or South Nyack Village hall from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.

Last month, South Nyack Mayor Patricia “Tish” DuBow has announced that she will not seek re-election, according to the Village of South Nyack. She supports Trustee Bonnie Christian in her run for the mayor’s position.

Donald McMahon, a trustee since April 2007 also is not seeking re-election this year.

Trustee in 2012, Bonnie Christian served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for four years and the Planning Board for seven. She recently retired as Director of Customer Programs for Gannett Co., Inc. Ms. Christian, a lifelong resident of the Nyacks, is a graduate of Nyack High School and Dominican College and received an MA at Seton Hall University. She is running unopposed for mayor.

Two trustee positions are to be filled.

The candidates are:

• Incumbent Trustee Thomas Neff has long focused on insuring that South Nyack’s interests are heard by the State. He is a retired NYC Transit Police Inspector and has worked with the Nyack Ambulance Corps since 1999.
• Catherine McCue, currently the president of Salisbury Point Co-operative, has been instrumental in organizing meetings with the NYS Thruway Authority and residents of Salisbury Point to discuss potential impacts of the TZ bridge project. 
• Clifford Weathers is a 12 year resident of the Village and the Deputy Automotive Editor for Consumers Report. He currently serves as alternate member of South Nyack’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

The election will be held on March 19th, from 12 noon to 9 p.m. at the South Nyack Village Hall.

Upper Nyack is also gearing up for its March elections, in which the positions of mayor, trustees and village justice are available.

The elections are slated for Tuesday, March 19; voting takes place at Upper Nyack Village Hall from noon to 9 p.m.

Details on who is running are below:

MAYOR (one-year term)

• R. Michael Esmay, Bell Tower Party (incumbent)
• Jennifer Chaitin, Girls Gone Green Party

TRUSTEE (two individuals to be elected for two two-year terms)

• Vincent S. Morgan, Bell Tower Party (incumbent)
• Jeffrey S. Hindin, Bell Tower Party (incumbent)

In Upper Nyack there are three members of the Bell Tower Party running for
reelection this year: Mike Esmay for Mayor, Vin Morgan and Jeff Hindin for
Trustees. Together they have devoted 47 years of unpaid volunteer service to
the Village. By supporting the Bell Tower Party a resident of Upper Nyack will
be voting for experience and teamwork. Mike Esmay has lived in Upper Nyack
since 1970 and has served in Village Government since 1995. Esmay who is a local architect has extensive experience in land use planning and regulation.
