Voting Ends June 30 in Benjamin Moore's "Main Street Matters" contest.
The Montvale, N.J.-based paint company included over 100 communities in the United States and Canada in a contest. The prize of a freepaint downtown paint job will go to 20 winning towns.
Nyack Mayor Jen Laird-White addressed the reasons why Nyack would be a great location for the prize in this video posted on YouTube June 15.
"We’re a gorgeous village on the banks of the Hudson River," she said. "We have an incredibly vibrant main street with all sorts of exciting things to do. We have great restaurants. Places to hear music. Places to grab a cup of coffee and hang out with a friend. We have a candy store,a book store. We have arts. We even have a place to buy Benjamin Moore paint. The community itself is diverse and rich. Every size, shape and ethnicity lives here. People who ivied here their whole lives and people who moved here last week, yet everybody loves Nyack the same way.
"Like all small communities coming out of a difficult time, we could do with a little bit of a touch up, just a tiny face lift. A little bit of revitalizing. I can envision it. A nice, resh coat of Benjamin Moore paint filling our main street. It would be perfect."
To vote go to www.paintwhatmatters.com. One vote per day is allowed.
Local businesses have been putting up posters supporting the effort, including Herb Lack Paints on Main Street in Nyack, which carries Benjamin Moore products.
"We've had people coming here saying they are voting every day," said Glenn Monterey of Herb Lack Paints. "Just now I was handing out flyers and (the response was) 'Oh yes. We're going to vote. We have to get this done."
