Monday, Jan. 20Â
_Schools are closed in honor of Martin Luther King Day as well as village offices, the post offices, and banks. There is no trash pick-up on Monday, resuming instead on Tuesday in both villages. Enjoy the holiday.Still have to commute? Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule with 36 additional trains as indicated in the current Harlem, Hudson and New Haven Line timetables. Off peak fares apply all day. Schedules here. (The subway system will operate on a weekday schedule as usual.)

_Big week for Town Hall meetings. First, the Ossining Town Hall meeting is at 7:30 p.m in the Ossining Public Library holding a Q&A session on the issue of 17/20 annexation, and offering updates on the feasibility study for Louis Engel Park and the contracted sale of 507 North State Road. Further on these issues can be found in Supervisor Susanne Donnelly's latest update here._Should Croton change the term of village trustees from two years to four? And hold elections every other year? The board will be discussing this and other matters at tonight's meeting.Â

_The Ossining Lions Club will present the Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award to the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps (OVAC) in recognition of its outstanding community service and dedication to helping others at a ceremony tonight.

_Save the Date/Place: Ardsley Middle School at 7 p.m., the region is invited to hear from a panel of Public Education Advocates talk about recent education reforms, the impact on our students and schools, and actions you can take as a concerned parent or community member. _Assemblywoman Sandy Galef will launch a series of five town meetings at various sites throughout the 95th Assembly District, the first to be held in the Ossining Public Library tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. The focus: state issues affecting her communities.Â
“I am always excited to host Town Hall meetings within the district I represent,” said Galef. “This offers me an opportunity to learn more about the issues which matter most directly from the people who I have been elected to represent.”Â
_The Turkish Cultural Center will be hosting a Community Conversation at 6Â pm for residents of Westchester County. The topic of the discussion will be Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.Â
Community Conversations provides an opportunity for people to come together for thoughtful discussion and dialogue about their shared values as Americans— past, present, and future. Focused on central themes in American life such as service, freedom and democracy, Community Conversations allows New Yorkers to join in discussions that offer an alternative to received wisdom and provide the chance to take part in a shared national dialogue.

_The Charles L. Brieant Community Center is honoring Ossining High school and Middle School students for their scientific achievements and their effort to embrace diversity. At the evening gala held at Chappaqua's Kittle House restaurant, the Ossining High "Gimme the Mic" students will perform. Village of Ossining Mayor William Hanauer and Westchester County Legislator Cather Borgia will serve as co-chairs and Susan Brooks O'Rourke will serve as Dinner chair. More info here.
_It's a big school vote for Croton Schools with the Croton-Harmon Capital Reserve Vote today, with projects to improve safety, upgrade facilities and enhance instruction, all while avoiding new taxes. "Since the funds have already been allocated to the capital reserves, if approved, the initiative will not create new taxes," School Superintendent Edward Fuhrman writes.Â
The district is seeking approval to use up to $4 million of existing monies in the district’s capital reserve fund to complete a series of projects in the district. Details on the full list of projects can be found here.Â
The vote will take place at the Croton-Harmon High School gymnasium between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.Â
