Air Quality Alert Issued for Croton & Ossining

An Air Quality Alert will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for Croton, Ossining and the rest of Westchester. An Air Quality Alert means that air quality will reach unhealthy levels. The Alert will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today. Officials are suggesting that individuals remain in air-conditioning during the afternoon and early-evening hours. Poor air quality can aggravate asthma, cause shortness of breath and throat irritation.

When an Air Quality Alert is in effect, the New York State Department of Health suggests that people consider limiting strenuous outdoor activity. Those who may be sensitive to elevated levels of pollutants include those with respiratory problems and the very young.

New York State has established a toll free number so that residents can stay informed about the air quality in their area. The number is 800-535-1345.
