An Early Sunday for Croton Fire Department

In one day the Croton Fire Department responds to a one-car accident and assists with the Toughman races.

Sunday, Sept. 8 started at 1:10 a.m. for the Croton Fire Department volunteers when they got a call for a car accident on Mount Airy Road.

One car had collided with a telephone pole between Georgia Lane and the Town line. Fire crews were on hand as were EMS, but the man complained of no injuries.

The car was towed and officials were able to clear the scene in an hour.

Then a full day began (again) with the 5:45 a.m. start of the Toughman races going through the villages. With swimmers off Croton Point Park, runners in the village streets, and bikers along Route 9, it was a complicated day with many crews on hand in case of emergencies.

Luckily, the day went without incident. The CFD had 20 volunteers at the ready until 2 p.m.
