Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School Celebrates National Poetry Month

Students created poems and carried them in their pockets to celebrate the day dubbed as National Poem in Your Pocket Day.

From Croton Harmon Schools: Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students ushered out the month of April, National Poetry Month, by displaying and sharing poems on April 27. The day, dubbed National Poem in Your Pocket Day by the Academy of American Poets, was celebrated throughout the school as students and teachers alike wore pockets carrying their favorite poems during the day.

Students created their own pockets and decorated them to display their chosen poems.

In Joanne Chousa’s third-grade class, students took turns sharing their poems by reading them to their peers. The poems varied in length and content and some were even authored by the students themselves.
