CHHS Names its Top Academic Students
The High School is commending two students who have truly gone to the head of the class.
Croton-Harmon High School has named Jacob Kleinman as its Salutatorian and Sarah MacLean as its Class of 2011 Valedictorian. While MacLean has achieved the school’s top ranking this year, she doesn’t just excel in academics. She is also an accomplished athlete who plays soccer and softball.
“Every so often, a student comes along that leaves a lasting impression. Sarah is one of those students,” said Director of Guidance Tanya Viola. “She has a zest for learning. Her passion is science. When you get to know her, you realize that her heart as a humanist inspires her devotion to the academic rigor of science. She has a commendable work ethic and more importantly, a warm and caring personality.”
MacLean stays busy taking part in school activities, ranging from Student Faculty Congress to Community Service Club. Her academic performance and participation in school functions have received the attention of Principal Alan Capasso. “Sarah has taken a rigorous course of study that has availed herself to some of the most demanding and challenging programs we offer. She has made the school, her parents and the greater Croton-Harmon School community very proud.”

The valedictorian has received a wealth of real world science experience recently. MacLean has researched DNA at the Harlem DNA Learning Lab. She has also taken part in the analysis of autistic diets at Northeastern University.
MacLean is heading to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall. She says her major will be Pre-Med.

CHHS’ Salutatorian also has an affinity for science. Last year Jacob Kleinman interned at Columbia University’s MRI lab. “Jacob has distinguished himself all four years at Croton-Harmon High School as a model student, leader, and citizen,” said Principal Capasso. “This recognition represents the culmination of an academic record that has consistently put him at the top of the class, and for that we are all very proud.”
Kleinman plans on going to Harvard this fall. He says he will either major in biology or East Asian studies.
