"We've been seeing a lot of these cases lately," Croton Sgt. John Nikitopoulos said of a bank account that was illegally opened in someone else's name.
On August 27, a Crest Street resident told police that an unknown person had used his social security number and address to open a new Chase checking and saving account in his name. They then tried to transfer $2,100 and $700 into this account from his other accounts, but Chase alerted the man and stopped the transactions.
"The bank blocked it and he notified the the credit bureau in case someone tries to open another account," Nikitopoulos said.
