Croton Accident Involved Two Unlicensed Drivers

The accident that was originally described as a "slight" rollover on Route 9 in Croton involved two cars but no real rollover, both which happened to be driven by unlicensed operators.

The accident slowed southbound traffic for about a half hour the morning of May 31 when at 9:46 a.m. one car rear ended another which ended up in the woods. Both cars required towing, Croton Police Sgt. John Nikitopoulos said.

The Croton Fire Department responded to the scene, on what turned out to be, as their staff reporter described it, "a hot, humid and busy end to May." On that morning the crew had already responded to several calls when this accident got called in.

From the Croton Fire Department website:

"The last incident of the day came in at 9:49 AM for a reported rollover motor-vehicle accident on Route 9 southbound, near the Warren Road overpass. Units arrived to find a two-car accident, no rollover, with one car in the woods. Vehicle one was parked on the shoulder and rear-ended by vehicle two. The driver of the struck vehicle reported minor injuries and was evaluated by CEMS. Car 2081, E119, E120 & R18 handled this assignment."

This rescue operation finished what was apparently the busiest month of the year for the Croton Fire Department.

One unlicensed driver was from Concord, North Carolina, and the other (who was taken by ambulance to Westchester County Medical Center) is a 35-year-old from Croton, Nikitopoulos said.

The first driver was issued a summons at the scene while Nikitopoulos said police would likely later issue a summons to the injured Croton man.
