Croton Firefighters Knock Down Basement Fire, Rescue One from Car Accident

On Saturday, Sept. 14, Croton-on-Hudson fire department members responded to a car accident on Grand Street near Niles Road at 4:30 p.m. While working that scene, some volunteers were rerouted to a fire at the same time on Lounsbury Road.

The two-car accident had one person stuck inside, requiring Jaws of Life rescue. “Working together, the crews of these apparatus successfully removed both driver's side doors in under 15 minutes and turned the patient over to EMS," said fire officials in a post on their webpage.

On Lounsbury Road, volunteers faced “smoke and flames coming from the basement stairwell.” Here, crews worked fast to knock down this fire in five minutes and return to the scene of the car accident. The cars were towed and the scene cleared there just after 6 p.m., with one taken to Westchester Medical Center.
