Croton-Harmon Students Create Occupational Therapy Tools

Two Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students in Croton-on- Hudson turned everyday stress into a productive endeavor.

From the Croton-Harmon School District: Two Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students in Croton-on- Hudson turned everyday stress into a productive endeavor.

Julian Ramos and Sean Whelan have created occupational therapy tools using items found at home and plan to share their creations with their peers.

“This came from Julian feeling stressed out at home one day and looking for an alternative to help get his negative energy out,” said teacher Travis Moll. “He was able to create a fidget cube from homemade materials.”

Ramos found that playing with the cube helped relieve his stress. His classmate Whelan recommended they work together to make more tools and have used their free time at home to do so, with the guidance of their teachers Moll, Annemarie Moore and occupational therapist Eileen Stark.

Coming up, the duo plans to create classroom presentations to share their tools with other students at CET.
