Croton-Harmon Students Share 'Poems in Their Pockets'

Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students shared their favorite poems for Poem in Your Pocket Day as part of National Poetry Month.

Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students created personalized pockets to carry their hand-selected poems in celebration of Poem in Your Pocket Day on Wednesday, April 20.

The day falls during National Poetry Month, a celebration of literature in schools, libraries, bookstores and beyond.

Students in Joann Chousa’s third-grade classroom were eager to share their poems – some selected from books of poetry, others authored by the students themselves – with their peers throughout the day. Many of the poems used imagery related to springtime or other timely themes like outdoor sports, while others utilized patterns like rhyme to tell colorful stories.
