Croton & Ossining Storm Aftermath Update
Croton and Ossining residents await power restoration and tree cleanup.
Things are slowly getting back to normal in Croton and Ossining. As of 5 p.m. there are 274 homes without power in Croton and 2,868 in Ossining. The outages in Ossining spiked after Hurricane Irene moved on, but winds persisted—knocking down trees and power lines.
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has extended its state of emergency until Friday at 6 p.m. The village has closed down Senasqua, Black Rock, Sunset and Duck Pond parks. Also closed are Silver Lake Beach, Mayo's Landing, Echo Canoe Launch, Kaplans Pond and the pedestrian bridge over Route 9. The county has closed Croton Gorge Park on Route 129.
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has decided to open Elliott Way, Dobbs Park, the Harrison St. Playground, Croton Sailing School, Croton Landing Boat Launch, the Croton-Harmon Train Station and Senasqua Boat Basin.
Metro-North has just announced that it resumed service beginning at 4 p.m. Metro-North is currently running a Sunday schedule.
Ossining residents on North Highland, Pocantico and Croton Dam Rd. have been wondering when their power will be restored. "We are now told that Thursday night—around midnight—is when power will be restored to those parts of the community," said Village of Ossining Mayor Bill Hanauer.
This morning there was a sewer main break on Hunter St. in Ossining. This evening the sewage has been diverted to another pipe and the sewage has been cleaned up.
