Power outages, downed wires and tree limbs on houses were the theme of many calls the Croton Police Department received during the extreme, if short-lived, storm of Sept. 12.
"Numerous trees were down and power outages reported throughout the area," Sgt. John Nikipoulos said. The storm hit fast and things were cleared up pretty quickly as well, he said.
Croton police received one public service call during the storm, as a woman on Lexington Drive had no power and needed help hooking up her new oxygen tank. The power came back while responders were helping her, Nikitopoulos said.
An unusual aftermath of the storm was a large bee's nest that fell into the roadway at High Street close on the 12th around 5 p.m. Someone reported to police that the nest was in the street and kids were throwing rocks at it. By the time police arrived, a car had run it over and the situation was "under control," Nikitopoulos said.
On Young Avenue, a large tree limb was leaning on a house with wires down at 8:29 p.m.
There was flooding reported just one minute later near the SkyView Nursing Home on Albany Post Road.
Most of the several dozens of residents affected had power restored before midnight but some had lingering impacts. At 3:08 p.m. the next day, a Glen Place resident reported a tree limb hanging on wires.
Another incident that may or may not be related to the storm was the water that was reported to be pouring through someone's basement wall on the night of the 13th. Police said the water department would follow up with the Cleveland Drive resident.
