Croton-on-Hudson Braces for Irene

How village officials and residents are getting ready for Sunday's big storm.

Croton officials continue to prepare for Hurricane Irene today. The Village of Croton-on-Hudson will use the Harmon and Grand St. firehouses as shelters if they are needed. Croton's municipal building will also be used as a shelter if necessary. "We are making final arrangements with the school district to be able to activate the only Red Cross approved shelter in the village, the Croton-Harmon High School, if needed," said Croton Village Manager Abe Zambrano. Zambrano says the municipality has planned for the eventuality that the hurricane will hit Croton and that all of Croton's departments are ready and have standby crews.

Across the Village of Croton-on-Hudson residents can be seen stocking up on supplies at ShopRite and other stores. People have also been trying to stockpile candles, food and water. And no matter where you go no one seems to have D batteries for flashlights in stock.
