Girls Scouts Collect Donations Sunday for Soldiers Overseas

Shoppers at the Ossining Stop and Shop on Sunday afternoon will see our local Girl Scouts in action, and get a chance to help our armed services.

Troop 1211, working on their Silver Award, are participating in the “Adopt A Soldier” program.

“They have supported our service men and women by sending letters, food, toiletries, magazines, etc. to them over the past few months," a spokesperson for the troop said. "In addition, Girl Scout Troop 1211 has met with various groups of children teaching them about patriotism and the importance of supporting our service men and women not just on holidays but every day.”

On Sunday, August 18, from noon to 4 p.m., Girl Scout Troop 1211 will be outside Ossining’s Stop and Shop collecting donations of items such as food, toiletries, magazines, DVDs, books, etc. to send to soldiers oversees. “Monetary donations are also appreciated to assist in the shipping cost that will be incurred,” they said.

If you can’t make it to the store on Sunday, Girl Scout Troop 1211 also plans to have donation boxes in various locations over the next two weeks. One confirmed site for a donation box is the Ossining Municipal Building (1st Floor). For any questions or donations you can also email them at forgetmenots1211@yahoo.com.
