Heads-Up: New Recycling Rules

Ossining and Croton are accepting more types of plastic for recycling.

Heads up if you’re getting ready to take out the recyclables—there might be more to collect.

Beginning this morning Ossining and Croton will be accepting five new types of recycled plastic. You must now put plastics that display the numbers 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 in your recycling bin. Products with these numbers are usually food containers or household liquids, such as detergents and cleaners. Previously only plastics with the numbers “1” and “2” on them were accepted.

The change is due to a new law taking effect in Westchester County today.  The Westchester County Source Separation Law requires that plastic containers with the numbers 3-7 be accepted by municipal and private garbage haulers.
