Hazy goes with heat.

The advisory for Dutchess and Ulster counties is in effect from noon till 8 p.m. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. The highest temperatures and heat indices will generally be found in the urban valley locations and peak in the mid to late afternoon for a couple of hours.

As a precaution, drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing whenever possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

An extended period of hot and humid conditions is in store for the Northeast, said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. "The lengthy period of hot and humid weather is right on cue for early July."

There were 648 wildfires burning in Canada July 5, according to the Canada Interagency Forest Fire Centre. The toxic smoke plume was drifting northeast.
