Coastal Flooding, Heat & Humidity, Storms: Hudson Valley Forecast

The National Weather Service has advisories out for the Sound Shore and the Mid-Hudson. Here's the latest and the weekend forecast.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — An Air Quality Health Advisory has been issued for Rockland and Westchester counties. The advisory will be in effect 11 a.m. through 11 p.m.

Elevated levels of fine particulate matter pollution were recorded primarily due to fireworks displays causing temporary spikes of PM2.5.

The National Weather Service advised communities along the Long Island Sound to expect minor coastal flooding Wednesday night and communities in the Mid-Hudson to expect temperatures in the 90s Wednesday and Thursday.

The northern and western suburbs of New York City, which will be away from any cooling sea breeze, may experience the first heat wave of the summer, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz said.

Oh, and more storms. There is a chance of thunderstorms Friday through Sunday and again Tuesday, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours, the NWS said.

Meanwhile, the humidity will begin giving us a roller coaster ride Wednesday afternoon, reaching a nasty 100 percent at dawn Thursday and Friday, dropping till noon and then rising again in the afternoons.

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires — there are 632 active as of Tuesday, up from 585 on Sunday — is forecast to shift into the northern Plains and Northwest U.S.

  • Thursday - A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 96. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Thursday Night - A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 67. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Friday - A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 88. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Friday Night - A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and 2am. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Saturday - A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Saturday Night - A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Sunday - A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
