Man Comes at Ossining PD With Knife

Officers from the Village of Ossining Police Department say they had to disarm a man that came at them with a steak knife.

A fight ends with a man coming at Ossining Police officers with a steak knife, according to investigators. Police got a call about a fight on Broad Avenue around 10:30 p.m. While responding to the fight in front of Nunez Market, Ossining Police Officers Maiorana, Bracero, Donhue and Oliveira spotted Brandreth Street resident Ollie Holmes walking towards State Street holding a steak knife. Officers ordered the 21-year-old to drop the knife. Instead of dropping the knife, officers say he turned and walked towards them while still holding the knife. Fortunately, officers were able to get the knife out of Holmes' hand.

"He was very fortunate because he had the knife—he was told to drop the knife—he didn't drop the knife. At that stage, that's a deadly weapon. The officers would have been perfectly justified using deadly physical force," said Ossining Police Lt. Michael McElroy. "But as events unfolded, they were able to knock the knife out of his hand, which from an officer safety standpoint is putting themselves at some risk."

Holmes is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the Tuesday night incident. Two others are charged in connection with the fight. 18-year-old South Highland Avenue resident Matthew Dusablon is charged with attempted assault. His brother, 27-year-old Christian Dusablon, is also charged with attempted assault. All three men are set to appear in Ossining Town Court on October 16.
