Metro-North Crew Involved in Rail Yard Injury Taken Off the Job

The crew that was working when a Croton-Harmon rail yard worker was hit by a train is no longer on the job.

The three crew members who were on the locomotive that hit a Metro-North mechanic have been taken off the job. The move was made as the railroad conducts an investigation into why a locomotive the men were on hit 55-year-old Sandy Tabin.

Tabin is listed in stable condition as he recovers from internal injuries and broken ribs at Westchester Medical Center. “One of Tabin’s duties is to place a blue light on the rail to indicate that it is out of service while repairs are underway.  He was on the track for this function when the accident happened,” said MTA spokesman Sam Zambuto.

The three crew members who have been taken off the job are an unidentified engineer, conductor and brakeman/assistant conductor. Tabin is a Kingston resident who has been working for the railroad for 31 years.
