Ossining Clerk: Dems Win All But One Seat

Ossining's Clerk spoke with Patch about her election night tallies.

"I have all of the Ossining Democrats winning with the exception of Michael Tawil." That is the succinct answer that Patch received regarding election results from Ossining Clerk Mary Ann Roberts.

It would seem that at this stage in the game Roberts has a lot more answers about last night's election than the Westchester County Board of Elections.

Before our conversation with Roberts, Patch asked Westchester County Board of Elections worker John Rivera for an update on: Ossining's election numbers, results from the county's 9th district, impoundments, and the lack of updated numbers on their site. "I have no idea… Everyone is tied up right now," said Rivera. Rivera then told us that he would have someone call us back.

Patch asked Ossining's clerk why the Westchester County Board of Elections' website shows a number of districts not reporting? "Everybody should have called the Board of Elections. And maybe they [the Board of Elections] haven't updated. Because I have to tell you, their numbers are totally different than mine," said Roberts.

Roberts says that she is only missing numbers from Ossining's Fifth District, because the election inspectors locked the numbers in the bag. "The election inspectors at the end of the night will print out of the machine—a strip that has all of the numbers for each candidate," said Roberts. "And then they have to transfer them onto a sample ballot to give to me. So when they come back—because their bag should be locked when they come back into my office—they give me the sample ballot and then we put it in the computer so we can do our tally." Roberts says sometimes the numbers are accidentally locked in the bags, because the election inspectors are exhausted after a long election night.

Roberts says Ossining's ballots have been caught up in an impoundment due to the Supreme Court justice race. "We received an impoundment order early last night. One of the Supreme Court justices—Justice Borrelli has requested it. I don't know why, but he did," said Roberts.
