Ossining-Croton Storm Cleanup

Crews and homeowners continue to clean up debris from fallen trees and tree limbs.

Update 9:39 a.m.: Ossining's Dale Avenue is still closed.

At its peak, 1,200 homes were without power in Ossining last night and more than 600 in Croton-on-Hudson. It was the winds from the large storm that wreaked havoc on our communities. The eye of the storm passed through Croton and Ossining around 7:35 p.m., which was when hundred of people lost power.

Shortly after 8 p.m. the storm began to die down and those without power, carrying flashlights, ventured outside of their homes to talk with neighbors. People who live around Ossining's Dale Avenue were outside surveying the damage and the streets that police had blocked off due to fallen trees. One man said that a tree fell on an SUV on Hawkes Avenue.

The power outage made for a dangerous situation at the intersection of Croton Dam Road and 9A, where the traffic lights and all of the streetlights up and down 9A were out.

Besides the power outages, the most inconvenient part of the night was a downed tree and power lines on Route 9A in Briarcliff Manor. The blocked roadway left traffic at a virtual standstill for hours, as motorists sat in their car during the storm.
