Ossining Library Cuts Back Hours Beginning Tomorrow
Budget cuts have caused the Ossining Public Library to scale back their hours of operation.
Tomorrow will lose its distinction as being open more hours than any other library in the county. That’s because the library had to cut its budget by more than $700,000 for its 2011-2012 fiscal year.
First, $448,000 was cut from the budget by reducing part-time worker’s hours. The library also cut operating costs for programs, materials, equipment and cleaning services.
“To fashion this budget, we needed to realize these personnel and operational savings, which meant hours had to be cut,” said Tom Staudter, president of the OPL Board of Trustees. “In the end, we realized the importance of remaining open on Sundays while maintaining the excellent level of library services our patrons are accustomed to at the OPL all week long. We have made some difficult choices and hope our expected revenues can sustain these new hours of operation.”
