At Tuesday's Town Board meeting, Ossining proclaimed itself a Purple Heart Town. This means it’s recognized officially as a town that honors veterans who have earned the Military Order of the Purple Heart, granted to all of the brave American warriors who have been wounded or killed in battle.
“While we owe so much, including our freedom, to all of the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces, we have a special place in our hearts for those who have been wounded or who have made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives for this great country of ours,” Town Supervisor Sue Donnelly said. “We appreciate all those in active service, along with our veterans, and we’re glad to be able to honor them in this way.”
Town officials estimate Ossining is home to nearly 800 men and women have served in the Armed Forces.
