Ossining Police: Car Airbags are Hot Item to Steal, Big Damage at Nursery

The Village of Ossining Fire Department put out a brush fire on the afternoon July 17 at the Briarcliff Drive South condo complex. They got the call at 2:36 p.m. and put out the fire of unknown origins, police said. 

Sun Valley Nursery's Expensive Flower Damage

Ossining's Croton Avenue nursery reported to police the morning of July 13 that extensive damage that had occurred sometime overnight, resulting in an estimated $700 loss of inventory. 

Someone had apparently cut a wire holding up a concrete flower basket display, causing the display with all the flowers in it, to crash down. 

Larcenies

Several larcenies were reported on July 13 in the village, including the loss of a mountain bike and clothes from the laundromat. 

A South Highland Avenue resident reported the loss of their mountain bike that afternoon, taken from a shared garage in a complex. 

Someone from the Riverside Laundry on Spring Street also reported the loss of clothes that day.

Windows Smashed, Airbag Stolen

A car parked at the Dominican Sisters of Hope had its windows smashed and its airbag stolen, Ossining police report. 

Someone broke through the window, likely overnight on July 12, and ripped the airbag out of the steering wheel, Lt. James Montague reported. 

Montague said that the bags costs about $1,000 to replace and are "an easy item for people to grab" with a "market for them in the city at those auto places."
