Ossining Police: Man Accidentally Fires Shot Through Neighbor's Apartment

A 28-year-old resident of the James Street apartments was arrested for accidentally discharging a shotgun in his apartment, Ossining police report.

The bullet, said Lt. William Sullivan, went through the man's ceiling and into an upstairs apartment, leaving a bullet hole in their ceiling as well.

The apartment upstairs was occupied -- it was 11:07 p.m. -- but no one was injured.

"Ironically," said Sullivan, "there was an accident in the adjacent building and the woman calling us thought the noise had something to do with that."

Police found in the man's apartment two rifles, a handgun, and ammunition which they confiscated after he turned himself into police the next morning.

The man said he didn't know the gun was loaded. Police charged him with reckless endangerment.
