Ossining Post-Storm Halloween Safety

The following is a news release from Town of Ossining Supervisor Catherine Borgia.

Halloween Safety Message
from the Town of Ossining and Con Edison

  1. Trick-or-treaters and their families need to take extra caution and be alert for downed power lines. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by snow, tree limbs, leaves or water.
  2. If you see downed electrical wires, do not go near them. Treat all downed wires as if they are live. Never attempt to move them or touch them with any object.
  3. Report all downed wires to Con Edison and the Town of Ossining Police Department immediately by dialing 911. If a power line falls on your car while you are in it, stay inside the vehicle and wait for emergency personnel.
  4. If your power goes out, disconnect or turn off appliances that would otherwise turn on automatically when service is restored. If several appliances start up at once, the electric circuits may overload.
  5. For more storm tips and preparation, go to www.conEd.com.

Customers can use their mobile devices, as well as computers, to report downed power lines, outages and check service restoration status online at www.conEd.com. They also may call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, have your Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether your neighbors have also lost power.
