Ossining Primary Results to be Analyzed September 22

The Westchester County Board of Elections will scrutinize the results from Ossining's primary at their Ardsley facility.

It will be a while until results from Tuesday's primary are official. The primary was conducted because both candidates for Town of Ossining supervisor wanted to run on the Working Families and Independence Party lines.

Democrat Sue Donnelly and Republican Peter Tripodi are battling it out for the seat that Democrat Catherine Borgia currently holds. Borgia is leaving the Town of Ossining supervisor position so that she can run against Republican Susan Konig for the Westchester County Board of Legislators' 9th District seat.

The next step in the post-primary process is analyzing the ballots again. Town and Village of Ossining Clerk Mary Ann Roberts will be there when the Westchester County Board of Elections takes another look at the ballots. They will analyze the ballots in Ardsley, where the county's voting machines are stored. "They should have a better handle on it by next weekend," said Roberts.

The toughest part of the so-called recanvassing process will be scrutinizing the handwritten write-in ballots. "I'm hoping that we'll have a somewhat official tally—and then the board will certify it sometime thereafter," said Roberts.

Both Tripodi and Donnelly are hopeful about the results. Meanwhile the two opponents are focusing on the long road to the election that lies ahead.
