Ossining Trustee Janis Castaldi Resigns

Village of Ossining Trustee Janis Castaldi has just handed in her letter of resignation.

The Village of Ossining Board has accepted the resignation of Trustee Janis Castaldi. Democratic Village of Ossining Mayor Bill Hanauer said Castaldi's resignation was unexpected and that the actual letter of resignation was only one sentence long. "She gave no reason for resigning," said Hanauer.

Mayor Hanauer says the Board of Trustees will be sending out a press release later today stating that they accept the Ossining Democrat's resignation with regret. The Board will now begin accepting resumes from those interested in filling the open seat. The Board has the ability to appoint a replacement for Castaldi themselves.

Castaldi's term runs out next year. It is unclear whether Castaldi's replacement would finish out her entire term, or if her seat would be up for grabs this November.

Ossining Republican Committee Vice Chair Pete Tripodi, who is also a Town of Ossining Councilman and a Town Supervisor candidate weighed in on the resignation. "I think that she has been met with the same resistance that I've been met with during my time on the board. I think that she does stand by the people and represents them better than any member of that board," said Tripodi. "I can only speculate now, but my guess is that she's been treated the same way that I have been on the board and maybe it's becoming a little too frustrating for her to be there."

Mayor Hanauer says the Board of Trustees may be able to appoint a replacement for Castaldi by October 4.
