Ossining's Hurricane Aftermath

Ossining's waterfront was hit hard by flood waters, but the water is quickly receding.

One of the worst hit areas of Ossining was the train station, but now the floodwaters have receded, standing water only remains on the west side of the tracks and at the bottom of the bridge that leads to Louis Engel park.

Dozens of people are out walking around to survey the damage. Most say they just wanted to go outdoors after being stuck inside for so long. A humid and brisk breeze can be felt. Droves of boats can be seen heading south down the Hudson River and water can been seen crashing into the shoreline.

There are still small amounts of raw sewage backup in the area. The sewage backup is due to the fact that the county sewage plant next to the park was beyond its capacity. "The county assures us that because of the quantity of water—it's [the sewage] not going to cause much damage. It will subside as soon as it gets below street level they'll be able to cap it off," said Ossining Mayor Bill Hanauer. "People should stay out of the Hudson for a few days, not just for that reason [the sewage], but because the Hudson is a mess."
