A 23-year-old Croton resident was taken to county jail after being turned in by his mother.
The man's mother contacted Croton police on June 27 to report that her son had allegedly stolen four checks from her over the past several months that he was able to cash. He allegedly was found to be taking money from his stepfather's accounts as well, Sgt. John Nikitopoulos said.
Police interviewed the mother and then went to the home where the son admitted to taking the money from his mother and stepfather, in total about $800, Nikitopoulos said.
The man received several misdemeanor charges as the amount came in under $1,000, namely:
- Seven counts of petty larceny
- and four counts of criminal possession of stolen property.
He was unable to post his $5,000 cash bail and was taken to Westchester County Jail in Valhalla with an upcoming court date.
