A Queens man got caught red-(meat)-handed, reports Croton Police Sgt. John Nikitopoulos.
The 31-year-old man was noticed by security at the Croton ShopRite store as he allegedly filled bags with expensive meat and beauty products, Nikitopoulos said.
Security called police at 4:56 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, saying a possible larceny was in progress and asked patrols to stand by. The store called back police soon after to say the larceny had been completed.
Police then nabbed the one man and discovered another man waiting in a car, 30, from the Bronx, had an active warrant out for his arrest out of White Plains.
The man with a warrant was picked up by White Plains police while the alleged shoplifter, found with approximately $750 worth of unpaid items in his possession, was charged with the misdemeanors of:
- Petty larceny and
- criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth.
He paid $400 cash bail and was given a return court date.
