Police: Ossining Citizen Catches Thief in his Car
"We don't encourage residents to apprehend suspects, but this worked out well," Ossining police said.

An Ossining citizen who noticed someone rummaging through his car parked on the street was able to catch the thief red-handed and hold him until police arrived.
Police arrested a 23-year-old King Street resident on September 8 at 4:45 a.m. after getting a call that he had been found trying to steal items from a parked car. The car's owner came out and called police immediately. When police got there, they found that the owner and a friend were holding the suspect.
Police charged the man with petty larceny, allegedly trying to make off with a cell phone, an EZ pass and about $20 in cash from the unlocked car.
"They did the right thing by calling police immediately," said Lt. William Sullivan. "We don't encourage residents to apprehend suspects, but this worked out well."
Note: An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
