Croton police arrested two alleged shoplifters from ShopRite on August 23.
Sgt. John Nikitopoulos said police received the first call from store security for a shoplifter who was in their custody at 1:26 p.m. The woman had tried to make off with various grocery items, but was caught instead on surveillance video.
The Croton resident, age 61, had left her dog in the car with the windows rolled down so police had to go pick up her dog shortly after she was booked at headquarters.

They had police on standby while a man they believed was about to leave the store with unpaid for items allegedly did just that. Police were there when the man crossed the sales line and charged him with criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny.
The 53-year-old Ossining man was released on $150 bail with a court date.
Croton police seem to think shoplifting isn't any more common at the village ShopRite store than anywhere else -- it's just they have the security and technology to catch it. "Security officers watch the cameras pretty closely there," said Sgt. Nikitopoulos.
