Presentation Tuesday on Development Ideas for Ossining's Market Square

Ossining Village Planner Valerie Monastra urges everyone to come hear the four to six scenarios for developing nearly an acre of land in the center of the village.

A consulting firm hired by the village, The Downtown Revitalization Group, will be presenting to the public their ideas "On the Creative Redevelopment of Market Square and Existing Downtown Parking Lots" during Tuesday's work session at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center at 7:30 p.m.

The market square area and its adjacent parking lots at the intersection of Main and Spring streets is on the drawing board, but not necessarily at the expense of the farmer's market and the parking, said Monastra. "The concept of public space in our downtown is very much a part of our vision."

Ideas introduced, still under wraps until Tuesday's meeting, will all be mixed use developments with private and public components. What will differ, said Monastra, are likely matters like building heights and orientation.

"Ultimately, we go out and seek a developer, but right now we're encouraging people to come to the public meeting," Monastra said.

She stressed that the village is keen on continuing to collect public input and take it all into consideration.

"An important part of this project is how you meld public with private," Monastra said, or as the agenda announcement for the work session puts it, "the Village’s vision of a fully functioning symbiotic downtown economic environment."

"The public so far has been very supportive," Monastra said, "which is why we want to continue to reach out."
