RELEASE: New York State Police Travel Advisory for Upcoming Holiday Weekend

Check your travel routes before you leave for holiday weekend destination.

From the New York State Police: The New York State Police and its transportation safety partners, encourage vacationers and travelers to double check their travel routes prior to weekend travel to ensure that their intended destinations are safe to visit and able to be reached via safe travel routes. 

Numerous primary and secondary roads in the eastern half of New York State were affected by flooding resulting from Tropical Storm Irene.  

Travelers are encouraged to call their intended destinations to get updated local information and use www.511ny.org or dial “511” on the phone, to get up-to-date travel information along the length of their intended travel routes.

In some areas hardest hit by the recent storm and subsequent flooding, roads are dangerously damaged and bridges and roads are closed. Unnecessary travel in such areas may hamper emergency response and repair efforts that are currently ongoing.
