Scene Around Town: Two Town Judges, One Past, One Present

Here's a photo Patch user Linda shared with us from Ossining's recent New Year's Day inauguration ceremony at the community center. Have a photo you'd like to share with the community? Post in our photo gallery.

After 30 years of being a Justice in Ossining Town Court, on February 9, 2011 Judge Edwin Shapiro announced his intention to retire. He retired on March 15, 2011. Ossining Town Board appointed John W. Fried to fill Judge Shapiro's unexpired term. In the November 2011 election, Judge John W. Fried became Ossining Town's newly elected Justice.

Judge Shapiro was known for his fairness and thoroughness in researching matters that went before him. Many of Judge Shapiro's decisions appeared in the New York Law Journal as "Decisions of Interest."

"It appears that Judge Fried has followed in his footsteps," Linda said.
