Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Parts Of Hudson Valley

A flood advisory has also gone in effect. Here are the details.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Monday afternoon for northern Westchester County, eastern Orange County, western Putnam County and Rockland County.

At 5:14 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Monroe to Nanuet, moving northeast at 35 mph.

  • HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
  • IMPACT: Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

Affected locations include: New City, Newburgh, Peekskill, Monsey, Nanuet, Haverstraw, Suffern,
Mahopac, Monroe, West Point, Sloatsburg, Cold Spring, New Windsor, Gardnertown and Greenwood Lake.

Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately, the NWS advised.

A flood advisory is also in effect until 8:15 p.m. for Rockland and Westchester.

Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen across some portions of the area. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, locally 3 inches possible, over the area through 8 p.m. This additional rain will result in minor flooding, with a low probability for flash flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include New City and Ossining, the NWS said.
