HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties.

It is in effect until 8 p.m.

"As always, these events are notoriously difficult to predict the exact areas that will be affected in advance. So keep your guard up this afternoon," said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather, noting that the storms can pop up and strengthen quickly.
