Which Streets in Croton and Ossining Need Sidewalks?

People talk about how challenging these lower Hudson Valley towns may be to navigate by car, but then there’s perhaps the greater issue of getting around by bike and by foot.

There’s some talk online, initiated by Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner, of getting a NYC-style Bike share program to our section of Westchester, but some naysayers said that would never fly in the villages where hills are steep and passages narrow.

The shared bikes would be stored at train stations which usually lie at the lowest ground, all uphill from there. Case in point: Ossining.

David Adam commented on Ossining-Croton Patch’s Facebook page:

"Let's look at where the Hudson line trains are located...along the river and in most cases at the bottom of a steep hill. I am sure there will be lots of people getting a shared bike to take the hill from Ossining into town, or up Main Street from the Tarrytown depot. Greg LeMond [Tour de France winner] is not getting off the train folks. A waste of money in these hilly places.”

So if more bikes aren’t likely, how about better walking conditions?

Ossining is currently redoing key stretches of sidewalks to get people up and down from train to Main. Renovations happening now on Secor Road are pictured above. Read more on this project here.

What other sections of Croton and Ossining have you noticed and navigated that could most use sidewalks? Weigh in here.
