1 Arrest After Man Stabbed 'Numerous Times' On Long Island: Police

He was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition, Nassau police say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A Long Island man was charged with first-degree assault on Saturday night after Nassau police say he stabbed another man numerous times in front of a home.

Officers responding to a report of an assault in front of a home on Split Rock Road in Oyster Bay Cove at around 5 p.m., were told Matthew Nickerson, 20, got into a fight with a 24-year-old man, and flashed a sharp object, then stabbed him, causing multiple lacerations before bolting from the scene, according to police.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment, and is listed in stable condition, police said.

A short time later, the Nickerson, of Fort Salonga, was found and arrested without incident, police said, adding that he was charged with first-degree assault, a felony.

He pleaded not guilty, and a temporary order of protection was issued on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead, online court records show. His bail was set at $20,000, $50,000 insured bond, or $100,000 partially secured surety bond, according to the records.

It is not clear if he has legal representation.
