Man Killed After Being Struck By Intoxicated Box Truck Driver ID'd: Police
The Farmingdale resident succumbed to his injuries, police say.
BETHPAGE, NY — Police have identified the man who died after being struck by a box truck driven by an intoxicated man on Thursday morning as Gino Vargas, 32, of Farmingdale.
Nassau County police said that at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, a 36-year-old Central Islip man was driving a box truck southbound on Hicksville Road near the intersection of Brenner Avenue when he struck a Kia driven by Vargas, which was exiting a parking lot onto Hicksville Road.
Vargas suffered collapsed lungs and a broken pelvis, and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced, police said.

Officers placed the box truck driver, Wilber Arevalo Argueta, under arrest without incident after driving while intoxicated, police said.
There was a 38-year-old male passenger in the box truck, and no other injuries were reported, police said.

There are no additional charges at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, NCPD said.
