12 Firefighters Hurt As Massive Blaze Rips Through Long Island Home

Eleven were treated at the scene; one was taken to the hospital after the 7-alarm fire that drew over 100 firefighters, cops say.

LATTINGTOWN, NY — Twelve firefighters were hurt in a seven-alarm blaze in Lattingtown on Sunday afternoon, Nassau police said.

The fire broke out at the Great Meadow Road home just before 4 p.m., drawing over 100 firefighters from seven departments, including Locust Valley, East Norwich, Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, Syosset, Bayville, and Jericho.

Nassau’s fire marshal and the police department’s Arson/Bomb Squad also responded to the scene.

The fire caused extensive damage to the house and as a result, two residents were displaced, police said.

Twelve firemen suffered from exhaustion, police said, adding that 11 were treated and evaluated at the scene, while one was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to police.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but does not appear to be suspicious at this time, police said.
