County Legislator Named To Forbes' Prestigious '30 Under 30' List

Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan joins an elite group of people who are "set to define the next decade and beyond."

OYSTER BAY, NY — A local lawmaker has made it onto Forbes' annual 30 Under 30 List.

The list, released Wednesday, recognizes 600 changemakers and divides them into groups of 30 across 20 wide-reaching disciplines.

Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (I-Woodbury) was recognized as one of the magazine's "30 Under 30" in Education and joins an elite group of people who are "set to define the next decade and beyond," according to Forbes.

At the age of 23, Lafazan became Nassau County's youngest-ever legislator upon his election in November 2017. He is currently serving his second term and represents Nassau's 18th Legislative District, which includes Lattingtown, Mill Neck, Locust Valley, Oyster Bay, East Norwich, Muttontown, Old Brookville, Glen Head, Syosset, and Woodbury.

"So honored to be named to the @forbes 30 Under 30 List!" Lafazan posted on his Instagram account.

Lafazan began his higher education journey at Nassau Community College, according to his profile on Forbes.com. He then transferred to Cornell University for his undergraduate degree before earning a master's in education policy at Harvard.

In 2019, at the age of 25, he became an adjunct professor at Long Island University, where he teaches courses on how to run for elected office and how to start a business or nonprofit in one's community, the profile stated.

"Forbes Under 30 is a reflection of how America's most diverse and most educated generation is poised to boldly propel this nation and the world into the future," Lafazan said in a statement. "It is truly humbling to be recognized by Forbes alongside such an awe-inspiring group of inventors, scientists, entertainers, and advocates, and I salute my fellow honorees for their tireless efforts to make the world a better place."
