Friends of the Bay Dive Cleanup

Volunteers collected 20 pounds of waste!

On Saturday, July 19, Friends of the Bay conducted an underwater cleanup on the north side of Oyster Bay with the Mill River Rod and Gun Club in Bayville. Five divers (Martin Straw, Norma Leon, Kim Valente, John Chiappardi, and Robert Hecht) were underwater for over an hour and collected 20 pounds of shooting targets.

Friends of the Bay would like to thank the club for its cooperation. They have made great efforts to be environmentally conscious. They switched to steel shot ammunition instead of toxic lead and are experimenting with using paper wads instead of plastic. Friends of the Bay would also like to thank the divers for picking up the targets and Captain Mitch Kramer for providing the barge.
