Girl Scouts of Nassau County Announces Bayville Resident to Serve as President of the Board of Directors

Girl Scouts of Nassau County announced that Bayville resident Melanie Sinesi has been elected to serve as President and Chief Volunteer Officer of Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Board of Directors through 2027. Melanie Sinesi was officially sworn in during the organization’s 60th Annual Meeting, held at Nassau Community College in Garden City. The Board of Directors is comprised of lifelong Girl Scouts, community leaders, and nonprofit and corporative executives who provide leadership, innovation and support to the Council and guide the organization’s vision and mission.

“Our Board of Directors is made up of passionate leaders who believe in the power of Girl Scouting to inspire and uplift the next generation,” said Randell Bynum, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “I am eager to see this group of leaders inspire and shape the Girl Scout experience in their terms. I am confident they will help to fulfill our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character.”

Board members work together to provide strategic leadership and foster opportunities that help girls throughout Nassau County develop courage, confidence, and character. They also play a vital role in supporting fundraising efforts that expand access to Girl Scout programs that empower girls socially, academically, and emotionally.

Serving as President of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board means taking on a vital leadership role that helps shape the future of the organization. The Chair plays a key leadership role by guiding the board of directors in shaping strategy, ensuring strong governance and making sure the Girl Scout mission stays at the heart of everything they do. This position isn’t just about overseeing meetings, it’s about helping the council succeed at every level. As both the chief volunteer officer and the principal officer of the council, the Chair also plays a hands-on role in shaping the direction and success of Girl Scouts throughout Nassau County.

Melanie Sinesi is a Manager of Communications & Public Affairs for New York Transco, where she focuses on advancing the Propel NY Energy Project. Prior to this role, she served for over five years in Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s administration as Director of Community Affairs, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff, overseeing special projects and initiatives, emergency response efforts, and community partnerships. She previously worked for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand as the Long Island liaison and Deputy Director of Constituent Affairs, assisting thousands of New Yorkers with federal casework, including 9/11 first responders. A proud Girl Scout alum, Melanie earned her Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards and has served on GSNC’s Board of Directors, board committees, as a national delegate, and as a past local association delegate chair.
