2 Dead After Ferrari Struck In Nassau DWI Crash: Police

UPDATE: A woman died at the scene, and the Ferrari's driver died at the hospital, Nassau police said.

LAUREL HOLLOW, NY — A woman and a man died after the Ferrari they were in was struck by an SUV driven by an alleged drunken driver early Saturday in Laurel Hollow, Nassau police said.

Sotirios Spanos, 32, of Syosset was driving a 2023 Acura MDX, traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard, near Moored Hill Road when it crossed over the yellow divider and crashed with a 2013 Ferrari Convertible traveling westbound, according to police.

The Ferrari's passenger, a 37-year-old woman, was pronounced dead by a Nassau police medic, police said, adding that the driver, a 37-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital where he died.

A subsequent investigation revealed that defendant Spanos, who remained at
the scene, was intoxicated at the time of the accident, and was placed under arrest
without incident, police said.

The identity of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.

Spanos is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree manslaughter and assault, as well as driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

He will be arraigned on August 13 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Northern Boulevard and Moores Hill Road were closed down almost 12 hours while officers were at the scene, according to police

Police announced the roadway was open at about 10:15 a.m.
