Officials Crack Down On Uncertified Clamming In Nassau Waters

Environmental Conservation Police Officers released 19 bags of clams back into the waters.

Environmental Conservation Police Officers were on their way to address multiple complaints of people clamming in uncertified waters in Nassau County earlier this month when they noticed something fishy, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The ECOs found two men clamming in the Town of Oyster Bay who were found to be in possession of 19 bags of illegally taken clams, the DEC says. The ECOs released the clams back into the water.

The men were charged with possession of and taking shellfish from uncertified lands, as well as multiple commercial shellfishing offenses. Multiple navigation law violations were also found during the inspection of their boat, the DEC says.
