Sotirios Spanos, 32, of Syosset was driving a 2023 Acura MDX, traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard, near Moored Hill Road when it crossed over the yellow divider and crashed with the 2013 Ferrari Convertible, which was traveling westbound, according to police.

Northern Boulevard and Moores Hill Road were closed down almost 12 hours while officers were at the scene, according to police. Investigators found Spanos, who remained at the scene, was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and he was placed under arrest without incident, police said.

Spanos is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree manslaughter and assault, as well as driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

His blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal state limit, Newsday reported.

His attorney, Steve Epstein, said his Spanos, who is married and works at a law firm, has never been in trouble in his life, according to Newsday.

“It was a tragic accident with two fatalities, and my client’s entire family and my client are remorseful for the consequences of the accident," he told the outlet. "But not every accident involves criminal responsibility. And there’s a lot to investigate, and so I just ask that everybody be patient before forming judgment.”
